Three Reasons Why You Should Re-Direct Your Affiliate Links

Affiliate marketing can make you a decent amount of income on the side without having your own product and sales copy.

The trick is to be different and not appear like everyone else. One main way to look different is to re-direct or cloak your affiliate link.

However, this article is going to tell you three other ways that re-directing your affiliate links can benefit you.

FIRST REASON
The first is Spam. When you use the same link coming from the same domain as everyone else, the spam filters start to pick up on that domain as being a sales letter email and blocking it as spam. i.e.

So when ever the filters see "www.affiliateprogram.com" in the email it will get blocked as spam and get blacklisted, especially if it is a large promotion.

The light bulb has finally started flashing in your head and you realize that you need an opt-in list to make money on the Internet. You've read hundreds of articles on the subject and sought expert advice. You've head all the stories of people creating a profitable business with opt-in lists.

With that light bulb still flashing away you finally decide to do something about it - start a list of your own. But how do you get started? And better yet, how do you build a list big enough to generate an income from?

It can be pretty scary when you're first starting out. Do you need a web site? An opt-in form? Should you use an autoresponder service or a script on your own site? How should you format the messages? How many should you send a week? The list goes on and on.

The answers to a lot of these questions will greatly depend on how experienced you are on the Internet. If you have no knowledge of CGI or PHP, then hosting your own script may not be an option. If you don't know HTML or don't have direct access to your on-line files, then editing your pages to insert the code for an opt-in form will not be possible.

These, unfortunately, are just some of the obstacles that you will need to overcome if you want to give this 'Internet Thing' a go. Having your own web site is almost a necessity. Without one, you would only be able to promote other people's products (as they would have their own web sites for you to send traffic to through your affiliate links).

Below are three easy ways that you can use to start building your opt-in list:

• Offer a free report that contains links back to your web site or even includes an opt-in form on one of the main pages. You can also make it necessary for your visitors to fill out your opt-in form before they can access the report.

• Join some of the Fire Sales and Giveaways that other marketers are running (sometimes called Joint Ventures). Add your gift to the site and when visitors want to download your gift make them fill out your opt-in form first.

• Exchange ads with other opt-in list owners. You run an ad for them and they run an ad for you. Granted you probably won't be able to join up with someone who has a huge list (as they won't be getting much exposure in return) but if you can find other lists that are of a similar size to yours, you should be in with a chance.

Building a profitable opt-in list won't happen overnight, but it will happen. Keep at it and be creative. Try things outside of the box; put a twist on an old idea. And most of all - be persistent.

Getting Started Online with Little or No Cash

In any given subject area you will usually find that there are several related products that you could sell from a tightly-focused Website where you could set up pages to pre-sell the products you have selected and then place a link that your customers can click on which will take them to the affiliate site to place their order - and if they do that, you get your commission.

WHAT IS ONE OF THE SIMPLEST AFFILIATE SITES TO SET UP ?

Handling the Negatives, Part II

Today we will talk about other factors that you will need to plan for to minimise the impact of things going wrong in your online business.

3. People want refunds

In the “normal” world, people expect that products they purchased can be taken back to the store for refunds. As an online marketer, this is an expectation that you will need to meet or confront at the time of purchase.

There are two ways that you can deal with this situation:

a) Highlight near your payment button the terms and conditions of purchase. You may have a 30 or 60 day money back guarantee.

b) If you absolutely do not wish to allow refunds on a product, you must say so near the payment button.

However if you look closely at your merchant agreement e.g. PayPal or Clickbank, the fine print indicates that you must provide a refund if requested, within a certain date. The only way to avoid refunds is to highlight NOT to purchase if refunds are desired.

The way you manage refunds is crucial to how your customers will perceive your integrity and honesty.

4. What to do when your website crashes or you run out of bandwidth

If your website becomes unavailable during a promotion, you will need to quickly mail everyone using your autoresponder, letting them know the circumstances. It is also good practise to mail them briefly once again when it comes back into service.

Note that if your autoresponder is run on your own host, and your host goes down, you will be unable to mail your list and your communication will be totally cut off. This is one reason why using a professional autoresponder is essential to your survival as an online marketer.

If you are running a promotion and run out of bandwidth, this will cause a significant amount of frustration with your customers. Your bandwidth requirements will depend on several factors, including:

a) size of graphic images – aim to keep them below 15kb

b) size of pages – aim to keep total size below 50kb

c) number of pages being loaded

d) number of people accessing your site

e) files that are downloaded from your site

f) number of days of your campaign

For example, if you expect 10,000 people to visit your site and load 20 pages that are 50kb each, then without downloading any files your (minimum) bandwidth is 10 Meg.

If your campaign runs for 10 days and each person downloads a 100kb file (for example, a gift), then your bandwidth requirement for the event would be around 10 Gig. Make sure this doesn’t exceed your monthly bandwidth as provided by your host!

To overcome disappointment from having your website shut off the air due to lack of bandwidth, you can look for host providers that offer “unlimited” bandwidth, or upgrade your existing hosting account as required.

5. Backing up your MySQL databases

One often overlooked area of site maintenance by website owners is the continual backup of MySQL databases. If you are using PHP programs on your site then it is of vital importance to backup your database, else in the event of a site crash your databases may not be restored properly.

A site crash can cause a loss of functionality of your site, lost data records, links and program blocks that don’t work, etc.

There are companies that can provide you with a backup service, or you can perform database backups yourself using database management programs that you run on your site or from your PC. Without backups you are leaving your site exposed to huge risk, which will mean a lot of extra rebuilding work for you if things go wrong.

Handling “The Negatives”, Part I

As an online marketer you face the challenge of creating a positive and friendly environment between yourself and your customers. You want to create an atmosphere of trust, and an environment where your customers can depend on your advice and ultimately become one of your paying customers.

However your efforts may not always be “appreciated” by your customers. You will find that people can become quite irate about payments that didn’t work, receiving your “nuisance” emails, or wanting a refund on purchases.

The way you manage these negative experiences will test your character and patience and may ultimately brand your reputation as an online marketer. Let’s see how to overcome some nasty situations which may come your way.

1. People want instant access to solve problems

The internet is all about instant information, so people are conditioned not to wait for the information or products that you are promoting. If you have problems with your website, payment links, autoresponder, etc, this can easily brand you with a bad reputation – even if it is not directly your fault.

To overcome this situation you will need to create open and clear lines of communication as a backup for when things go wrong. One way of receiving official complaints is by using a Support Centre. If you have no Support Centre, how can people contact you about missing download pages?

Using a Support Centre will create a professional appearance and provide you with the ability to track a situation. You can also assign multiple users to assist in the Support Centre, which lets you hire temporary staff from outsourcing agencies if required.

2. People want to get off your mailing list

If your subscriber base starts to grow rapidly, you will soon find out that some subscribers don’t want to hear from you. They often won’t tell you politely that they want to be removed, but will email you with abusive expletives. Or worse, instead of emailing you directly, they may approach the CAN-SPAM authorities suggesting that your emails are SPAM, and you may have to face "corrective action".

Be careful not to fall prey to taking offence at every criticism that you receive, especially if people want to be removed from your mailing list. More so, unless your subscribers are happy to open and read your emails, you’re wasting your time. You will need to learn the art of positive interaction in order to handle the complaints effectively.

With the anti-spam laws governing email marketing in the US and abroad, you need to always provide a means of allowing your customers to get off your mailing list.

Some common methods to unsubscribe include:

a) A link to unsubscribe or change user options. These links are commonly placed at the end of each email sent from internet marketers.

b) Provide an email address within the email itself informing them that they can unsubscribe to your list by sending an email to that address.

c) Allow your Support Center to assist with unsubscribe requests, as some people don't trust the "unsubscribe link" found at the bottom of each email.

Without some form of removal from your mailing list, at the worst you risk losing your domain(s). You may even have contact from the CAN-SPAM authorities that could leave a deep dark impression on your online business - and who would want that ?

How to Legally Build a Subscriber Base

The most time consuming role of being an internet marketer is building a legitimate subscriber base. Due to anti-Spam regulations in the US, where you face serious fines and penalties, you are no longer permitted to purchase lists of customer details (email address) that have been harvested via spamming robots.

Building a legitimate subscriber list requires that people respond to an offer where they provide their name and email address in exchange for information or products that you can provide them. As an internet marketer, this provides you with a legal covering for collecting a customers details.

This is called permission based emailing.

At the time of collection, you will also need to pick up the customer’s IP Address and Data and Timestamp, which is handled automatically by an autoresponder. These two pieces of information allow you to demonstrate that you collected their email details from their computer’s IP Address, on a certain date. If you want to avoid facing heavy penalties and possible ban from the authorities, you will need to ensure that you have these two pieces of information.

There are two types of signup forms that can be used to collect name and email details, and they differ in their usage. They are called single opt-in (or just opt-in) forms, and double opt-in forms.

Opt-in forms are also commonly called squeeze pages, or gateway pages. The purpose with opt-in forms is to offer some information or a product in exchange for a customers email details. With single opt-in forms, a user just enters their name and email address into the place fields and can retrieve the information or product straight away.

The risk with single opt-in forms is that anyone can submit a false (someone else’s) email address in the email fields, and retrieve the information. Even dummy email addresses can be used to obtain the information or product.

As a result, the internet marketer may experience two types of problems:
1. SPAM complaints – if another email address is used that is not the owner, the actual person may complain to the authorities and get the website banned, or face huge fines.
2. Dummy emails – they do not provide any method of future contact with the customer, and the list of subscribers doesn’t grow.

Double opt-in forms, on the other hand, eliminate SPAM complaints and reduce the number of dummy email addresses down to zero. This is done using an interim step in the sign up phase. Instead of providing the information or product directly upon signup, an email is sent back to the subscriber with a confirmation link that they need to click.

This confirms that they are actually the owner of the email address that they provided, which reduces SPAM complaints. In addition, this allows the list owner to build a legitimate customer base.

Using double opt-in forms for customer sign ups is the recommended way to legally build your subscriber base.

As an internet marketer, you are always looking for fresh, new products that you can use to product an income or to use as free offers to grow your subscriber list. One way of having access to new products is to join a membership site, which guarantees that you will always have something new to offer your customers.

There are various types of Membership Sites that you may wish to join. Some Membership Sites focus on releasing new Private Label Products each month, while other sites aim to build a core base of products that you may use for your online business.

So how will you know the best site to join? Or are there several sites that you may want to join, in order to get the benefits from multiple providers?

Firstly, let’s talk about the positives and negatives about Membership Sites, then let’s consider whether you should take the next step and join up.

Positives:
1. Membership sites provide you with e-products that you can use or resell, without having to do the hard work of creating your own products.

5. The products may not necessarily be in your niche area, so unless you check this out carefully you may be paying for a service you never use.
6. If you wish to run your own membership site and wish to resell the products, be aware that some products may not be directly transferable from the site you are subscribing to.

Should you join Membership Sites?
You will need to determine whether a Membership site is going to deliver benefits to your business in the long term. eg. Do the positives outweigh the negatives? Do the products line up with your Niche Market? Can you afford to maintain the monthly or yearly fee? Are the products saturating the market?

PLR Big Ticket Items give you a wide range of options in order for you to grow your online business, but are they really worth it?

As an online marketer you are always looking for fresh new products to promote. One of the fastest ways to acquire new products is to purchase Big Ticket Items with Private Label Rights (PLR). Big Ticket PLR Products usually start at around $147 for a range of 5 to 10 e-products that have not been previously released on the internet.

This typically works out to around less than $20 per product - which is exceptional value if you consider that numbers are usually limited to around 500 !

Consider the Positives:
With PLR Big Ticket Items you buy an instant “business in a box” solution. This requires you to do no work on creating the product, and in addition these big ticket items typically come with a web site, professional sales pages and graphic images.

You receive a number of products that you can resell immediately after setting up your payment processor. All that remains is for you to market your products.

If you have an existing mailing list centered on your niche products, your financial outlay to purchase the PLR big ticket items can be viewed as an investment in which you can immediately make significant gains.

Further, with PLR content you typically have the right to use and repackage the content in any way that you can – depending on the rights and restrictions that come with the package when you purchase.

This provides you with a lot of flexibility when offering your product to end users. For instance, you may brand the products with your own (or affiliates) name and website. Although you cannot claim copyright to the product, by repackaging it with other PLR products you may be able to create a whole new product with a higher perceived value.

Consider the Negatives:
Although you purchased the products with the right to do anything with the content, you do not own the copyright. Even if you are encouraged to put your name on the product, you are unable to copyright it unless you make significant changes to the product itself, so that it becomes quite unlike the original product.

Another factor that you need to consider is that a limited number of other marketers will also possess the same PLR Big Ticket Items. This amounts to a small amount of competition.

There is also likely to be restrictions on the sale and use of the products. These are usually introduced to preserve the long-term value of the product in the marketplace. While this limits your marketing methods, it also stops other marketers from introducing too much competition and reducing the overall value of the product in the market place.

1. Are the products in your niche?
Don’t even consider purchasing the products if you think that you will be unable to resell them, or if you don’t plan to use them.

2. What level of Rights do you need in your business?
Do you need to own Private Label Rights for what you want to do with the products, or can you purchase them individually from other marketers with Master Resell Rights?

3. Understand the restrictions.
You may be attracted by the ability to own content that you can do anything with, but check out the things that you can’t do. For example, some common restrictions are that you are unable to resell the item on auction sites, or you must meet a certain price criteria.

4. Is the price affordable?
Don’t rack up credit card debt in order to get the products. Spend wisely!

5. What is your expected rate of return on your investment?
If you are spending $147 (or more) to purchase PLR Big Ticket Items, when do you expect to get that money back? How much profit do you expect to make once you’ve paid off the initial investment?

6. How do you plan to market the products?
A marketing plan is essential to knowing how to make money from any product that you promote. If you are purchasing PLR Big Ticket Items then it is important to consider how to market each item prior to purchase.

7. Can you include the products in Membership Sites?

8. Do some keyword research.
Are the products as popular as the owners claim them to be?

9. Will you add value to your website, your customers and your affiliates if you purchase the PLR big ticket items?

10. Can you give the products away for free?
If so, consider that the market may become flooded with the same products in the next 3 months by other marketers using this approach to gain subscribers,

Making Money from Public Domain and Private Label Content

There's so much public domain content available all over the internet, with Master Resale Rights available and sites springing up left and right with Private Label articles you can use to create your own products.

BUT: What do you need to bear in mind when creating articles; What is the best way to use all this content; and What can you create with it?

This is What you will need to Look Out For:

Copyright - you absolutely must check on this - to violate someone's copyright is not clever and can be a really expensive mistake not to mention seriously damaging your reputation. Is it really public domain? All those lawyers fees can really mount up when checking into all this but believe me, you really don't want to end up in court over it.

Public Domain Content - If you have the money to have a lawyer look at copyright for you then fine, go ahead and get started.

Where can you find this type of content? It can be difficult to find content that is free to use but here are a few links to get you started:

Private Label Resale (PLR) Rights - If you can't afford expensive lawyers what else can you do? One rather less pricey way is to buy Master Resale Rights to a product - this gives you the opportunity to name yourself as the author, use the content in another product, rewrite the whole thing - the possibilities are endless. Just be aware with this that you will need to look at the terms and conditions of what you are allowed to do with the product before you buy.

On a budget? - not to worry, there are still many ways you can find great content without spending a fortune or worrying about whether you can legally use it. Sites such as http://www.infogoround.com and http://www.thelostfiles.com provide guaranteed public domain or private label content for a monthly fee.

You could also sign up to some of the well known internet marketer's newsletters. Why? Well if you're serious about internet marketing you should be checking out all the latest happenings anyway, but a lot of newsletter owners will have free ebooks, giveaways and articles to download - some of which you will be able to use as your own.

Check for duplicate content - So you've got your content ready to go and you've checked your rights and permissions but there is one more thing to think about - sites such as http://www.copyscape.com can check for duplicate content on the internet and of course so can the search engines.

This could mean anything from the search engines deciding they won't rate your site as highly because the exact same content is available elsewhere to some smarty pants asking you if you really did write that incredibly good article because they've seen someone else claiming that they wrote it too, so you do need to be aware of this when looking to use content you haven't personally created, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go ahead and make the most of all that wonderful information.

You could just read the information to learn from it yourself; you could read it to get ideas for businesses, more articles, content, the list is limited only by your imagination.

Next, your strategy...
When it comes to using all the content you have gathered, you need to look through it all and decide what you want to produce. If you plan to use content from more than one source, such as 2 or 3 articles by different authors to be combined into a report, you will need to go through and change the content into a similar style, check that it is all written in the same tense, make sure the formatting is the same throughout, check for spelling and grammar (for example - spelling for some words is different in the US than the UK) and look through all the articles to see if any of the points made are duplicated.

Once you've done this, make a list of points you want to make in your report, read the articles through again and start combining them together to fit what you want to say - cut and paste to copy sections into the right place.

Next, look at the way your draft reads now and see if it fits your style of writing, your personality and your business. Reword it to fit with this - there's no point in producing a very formally written, stiff sounding report for a hobby site.

At this point you could just tweak it, proof read it, and then go ahead and publish it but to take it a step further and make it really unique, why not look at how you might rewrite it so that all of the content is yours - now you've got the basic idea down and laid out, it shouldn't take you long to reword things, add in some of your own ideas and keywords that fit your site, and maybe a few quotes and suddenly you're looking at something that no-one else has got, that the search engines will love and that no-one can claim you copied.

Time to start creating!

Using Private Label Content for Profit

Let me be the first to admit that I'm no guru in setting up Content Sites with Private Label Articles. Now that I've got that off my chest, let's begin.

Information and Articles are the life-blood of the internet.
Just think about that for a second. What is the MAIN REASON that people want to go online?

Let me answer that for you: To find INFORMATION !

And the internet is full of useful information that we can all use.

So... if you are preparing for an online business, you will need to get your hands on some Private Label Articles or Products that you can use, resell, repackage, etc.

But where do you get articles and infoproducts from without spending an Arm and a Leg?

You may have seen the current 155 Private Label Articles Adsense Package that is running for just 72 hours only.

This package can get you started in several ways :
1. You can create unique content sites around your Niche (and cash in on Adsense passive income)

2. You can repackage the articles as your OWN infoproduct with YOUR OWN NAME on them

3. Resell the articles to other people in the niche that you are in

To slightly modify a Private Label Article you can choose to do it manually - just perform a "find and replace" on the words that you want to change, and it will soon develop into your own personal article in very short time.

Trojan Virus Issue Resolution

Friends and Partners of the Easter JV Giveaway,

Following up on my recent email earlier today about Trojans, I have had several emails suggesting that there may be no problem at all. In an attempt to err on the side of caution as my duty of care, I thought it best to let you know as soon as possible.

The suspected "Trojan Passview" is actually the Registry Manager for passwords in Internet Explorer, and can only be viewed by the person who is logged on at the time. It is controlled by "protected storage" management of IE.

The EWIDO Site states :
" The Protected Storage information is saved in a special location in the Registry. The base key of the Protected Storage is located under the following key:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider"
You can browse the above key in the Registry Editor (RegEdit), but you won't be able to watch the passwords, because they are encrypted. Also, some passwords data are hidden by the operating system."

The EWIDO Site also states that there could be a False Alert message by some programs :
"False Alert Problems: Some Antivirus programs detect Protected Storage PassView utility as infected with Trojan/Virus. "

Doors close on the Easter JV Giveaway 2006 !

Hi everyone

Well May is now here and believe it or not I thought it would NEVER arrive !

The Easter JV Giveaway was run over two periods: firstly, from April 1 to 9, then due to a number of "complaints" the site was relaunched form April 20 to 30 to allow more people to access all the goodies.
